Dear Mylene,
How are you today? I hope you are now in a job you love, learning new things, and working with fantastic people. I know you prayed and worked hard to be where you are right now.
42 was hard. I want you to remember how much you’ve persevered. You faced one of the biggest heartaches in life: losing a job. You wanted change. Deep in your heart you knew it was coming. But, it still took you by surprise when your bosses gave you the news. It came during very uncertain times in the economy.
After 11.5 years with the same project, you were forced out of your comfort zone. You said goodbye to the people you’ve worked with. You faced the harsh reality of rejections and automated mails generated by AI. You wondered if they even really checked your resume. You reached out to many people in your network, hoping someone can open a window of opportunity.
You did not give up. You spent summer weekends going through Udemy trainings on PMP, Spring Boot, core Java, Gen AI and more. You tweaked your resume and cover letter for every role you saw that felt like a good fit.
After all the hard work, you finally got your PMP certification and passed technical interviews on Java/Spring Boot. You also are a much better communicator and manager now because of your speech classes.
You dreamed bigger, bolder dreams.
There were tears shed. There were moments when you thought it’s the end of your career. But you made it this far. You were successful in the past and you know deep inside, that you can do it again. What fueled you through was your love for your family. You knew you can’t let them down. Just thinking of them gave you renewed strength and energy to try again. There were times when it got really tough. You felt like the easiest way out is to give up. But you fought and made it through.
It was a hard year but there were also special moments that filled your love tank:
- swimming dates with daughter
- “bin shopping” with friends
- video calls with family in the Philippines
- long late night chats with husband
- Bingo games with husband and daughter
- Playing and cuddling with Dough
Look where you’re at now! It’s proof that everything happens for a reason. God doesn’t waste a heartache. And He’s got the best plans for you!
What are the challenges you’re facing now? How can you learn from this experience?
What are new things you are learning now?
